Today I want to talk about “Simply Peace”
My husband always tells me that if he can’t get peace anywhere he should always have it when he is home. I know when he walks in the door his routine never changes. He will exhale, say thank you Jesus, turn on the television, get himself something to drink in his large glass, clothes and shoes are still on and he sits in his chair and his peace has begun. This routine is understood by our family. However, it seems to me he would be more comfortable if he dressed down and took off his shoes but when asked, he always respond I’m fine.
Have you ever considered what routine does our peace consist of? After a long day of events, I would think we all are looking for that moment of peace and tranquility. On last Thursday I had a full day but what brought me joy was knowing at 5pm I was going to be at the spa with some other friends and family. My day was hectic but just knowing I had this to look forward to enabled me to go through it with ease. I called my cab thirty minutes prior to make my train, it was late due to traffic, and I missed my train. I had to wait forty one minutes for the next train. It arrived on time but didn’t leave on time due to mechanical difficulties. You can only imagine what happened, you guessed it, and we had to change trains. Then while on the train, there is a delay because my train is off schedule we had to wait and let the trains that were on schedule go before us. Time goes by and finally I’m thinking maybe I can still make it even if I’m a little late, because the next stop is mine. As we are approaching our final destination, suddenly we stop again and now we are in a tunnel. This can’t be happening but it is. Another twenty minutes go by, no announcements, people upset, and I’m trying to remember I’m a Christian and should be identified as one. Finally we are in the station and I realized I have been trying to get to my two hour destination for three and a half hours and I’m still not there because now I have to transfer to go further. Truth be told, I am frustrated, disappointed, angry and trying real hard to accept what just happened. “I will not make the spa in time” My whole purpose is defeated. I knew I really needed this spa fun filled evening earlier and now I need it even more but it is not going to happen. I gather my thoughts and try to convince myself as we Christians do, that it must be a purpose, God knows best. Come on let’s be real, I don’t want to hear that right now. I am stressed out among other things!
As Christians we try to be deep which leads to denial. You know the cliché “I’m blessed of the Lord and highly favored and to blessed to be stressed”. Stop it already. There is nothing wrong with being stressed. Last I checked it was King David who said “when my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that is higher than I” Psalms 61:2. To be overwhelmed is a form of stress.
I had to find my peace, and I did. I simply accepted I had missed the spa, but if God spared my life, I would have another opportunity to go. I was grateful I was safe and all the other passengers also. The monies I was going to use on the spa I would take and treat myself to something else. I got me something to drink from a vendor, sat down and exhaled saying thank you Jesus Amen.
Be Blessed and Always Remember to Bless God!
