Today I want to talk about “The Little Things”
I went to the super market on Sunday and I wanted some crackers to go along with m y tuna. As I went down the aisle naturally there were many brands but one brand in particular caught my eye. “Keebler Town House crackers Now usually I would pass this one by because it’s a little more expensive than the others, yep even the “Ritz” brand. I walked by them and continued my shopping not able to get those crackers out of my mind. Finally on my way to the register I tooK a quick turn and looked up to read the prompts to let me know what aisle the crackers were in. I headed down the aisle and went straight to the Keebler’s Town House crackers. I didn’t look at the price, as a matter of fact I gathered two boxes.
As I proceeded to the checkout counter I kept informing the cash register attendant of my sale items just making sure I was charged the right prices. When she came to my two boxes of crackers I said nothing. She scanned them and looked at me strange (maybe wondering why I didn’t get the brand on sale for the week) especially since I had all sale items on the counter. It didn’t matter to me. I had already made up my mind that regardless of the price, I was taking them home with me.
As she rung them up and placed them in a bag I smiled inside and out as a beautiful sense of joy swept from heart. Those boxes of crackers had made my day. I guess you are wondering why. Well the answer is simple. On December 31, 2006 my dear and closet aunt passed on to be with the Lord. We were only months apart in age. You see I was rememberng one day when I had gone to her house she had some Keebler Town House crackers. We actually had a conversation about them. I told her I had never tasted this kind before, and then I looked at the price on the box and laughingly said “now I know why” she laughed and said “Hon, these are the best crackers ever, they are better than Ritz and worth the price. We laughed and talked and before we knew it, the box was empty and of course she accused me of eating all her crackers and said I was gong to buy her another box. I said yea right, not at this price and we laughed some more.
I must admit I have not purchased any since then but on Sunday, January 22, 2012, I purchased two boxes. One for me and the other in the memory of my aunt Lori. That day I remembered “the Little Things”
